Identify Your Customer Avatar
A customer avatar is simply a picture or depiction of your ideal customer/client. When you spend time really understanding who you serve best in your business, marketing and sales get easier. Knowing as much as you can about your customer avatar includes knowing their pain and their goals and how your product or service can solve their pain and/or help them attain their goals.
The more you know about your ideal customer the more customers like them you will attract. Attracting “ideal customers” gets easier because you speak their language when you talk about their problems and your solutions to their problems. When they talk to you or read something you have written in marketing materials it feels like they are the only person in the world and you understand exactly what they have on their mind.
Referrals get easier when your customer avatar is clear in your mind. When you say you can help anyone who has this problem, it is much harder to identify someone the referral source knows. When you tell people the clients you work with are between 30 and 40 years old, married working full-time and trying to start a business on their own….it is much more likely that someone comes to mind immediately. And, if not, the next time they talk to someone who fits, they will likely think of you and your service and suggest you can help their friend.
When you choose a customer avatar it doesn’t mean you don’t work with people who don’t fit into that description. It simply means they are who you serve best.
